Is
Montessori Right for Me?
Children from a variety of cultures and
backgrounds all over the world have benefited from a Montessori education.
Your child will as well. Academic readiness is not the issue. Whether the
child can count, identify colors, or use scissors properly is not the focus.
The Montessori teacher is interested in the child's developmental readiness to
respond to the sensory stimulation of the Montessori environment.
You, as the parent, sense that the time may
be right for your child to come t
o
school. Perhaps the toys at home no longer seem interesting. Maybe your child
has already had some positive experiences away from you. You feel that the
child is ready for new experiences, challenges and friends. Now your child is
ready to benefit and grow in the Montessori classroom.
There she will feel connected to a caring
community in which her individual developmental needs are satisfied by the
manipulative materials. There she can learn at her own pace. There she will
gain independence, self-esteem and respect for others.

Looking
Ahead to Elementary
Lake Fern offers Montessori pre-school
educational programs beginning at age 2 and one half, and continues with
kindergarten through seventh grade programs. The upper level environment
responds to the child's expanding view of the universe. Some of the same
materials from the preschool classroom are present, to be used in more complex
ways. In addition, many new materials are introduced as the child moves toward
abstract thinking, developing his imagination to embrace concepts larger than
his immediate environment.
Like preschool, the elementary curriculum is
interdisciplinary, allowing science, social studies, the arts, language and
math to converge in studies guided by the child's own questions. Emphasis is
placed on the connections between the different areas of study, not on the
mere presentation of detail.
To facilitate the inevitable transfer to
traditional schools, Lake Fern maintains good communications with the Brevard
County public schools, and has a long history of placing students in the
gifted programs offered by the public schools.

Our
Facility
Lake Fern is located on a two and one half
acre, naturally wooded plot of land and has a total of 5760 square feet of
building space. Our playground area is well over 10,000 square
feet and is enclosed by a 6 foot fence. Our location is out of direct view of
the local major highways, which reduces noise and distractions and adds an
additional level of security. The facility main entrance is protected by a
combination lock and the combination is changed several times a year. The main
building has a fire sprinkler system and remotely monitored fire and security
system.
